Tuesday, August 2 This new exhibition at the SPUR Urban Center Gallery will unveil a road map for 10 years of improvements to the streets, alleys, parks and plazas of San Francisco’s Yerba Buena District. The opening will feature food trucks, free flowers and urban innovations. Join special guest Mayor Ed Lee in launching San Francisco’s first parkmobiles. Learn about the future Yerba Buena from Street Life Plan consultants CMG Landscape Architects. The event is sponsored by the nonprofitYerba Buena Community Benefit District, which works to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood.

The Transit Effectiveness Project (TEP) was the first system-wide Muni study undertaken in a generation to make transit more convenient for current customers and attract new customers. Among the goals of the TEP are to improve the reliability and efficiency of Muni, reduce travel times and improve the customer experience. The city’s latest Pavement to Parks project runs for two blocks on Powell Street alongside the famed cable car line and was created in partnership with the Union Square Business Improvement District (BID) and Audi of America. Join Donna Ficarrotta of the Union Square BID, Andres Powerof the Planning Department and the promenade designer for a tour of this new and innovative public space in the heart of downtown San Francisco. Destroyed in a dramatic and highly publicized implosion in 1972, the Pruitt-Igoe public housing complex in St. Louis is a widespread symbol of failure among architects, politicians and policymakers. Director Chad Freidrichs’ new documentary,The Pruitt-Igoe Myth (2011), explores the social, economic and legislative issues that led to the decline of conventional public housing in America while tracing the poignant personal narratives of several project residents.
