Help Muni Improve Transit Travel Time

Muni has heard from you: in surveys and community meetings, at public hearings, via Twitter and on blogs, and, of course, on the bus – you want better, faster and more reliable transit service in San Francisco.

As part of the Transit Effectiveness Project, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) which operates Muni is developing proposals along the following eight routes and lines to help Muni customers get to their destinations more quickly.

N Judah – J Church – 5 Fulton - 8x Bayshore Express – 14 Mission – 22 Fillmore – 28 19^th Ave. – 30 Stockton

Come to a public workshop to learn more about these proposals which include bus stop and roadway changes and pedestrian improvements. The workshops will be held around the city and will focus on neighborhood-specific changes. The first workshop is on Saturday, March 31^st at Jefferson Elementary School. Powell Street Promenade tour Tuesday, August 30, 2011 12:30 pm   The city’s latest Pavement to Parks project runs for two blocks on Powell Street alongside the famed cable car line and was created in partnership with the Union Square Business Improvement District (BID) and Audi of America. Thanks for joining us at Sunday Streets!   We had so much fun in Golden Gate Park and along the Great Highway! There we so many highlights to the day, it's hard to know where to even begin! They will be back at the August 14th event, so don't miss them!! Photo by Frank Chan      Spotlight on Our Pet Programs:                                   Every month, Shelah Barr donates her time to Sunday Streets by  organizing all of the pet programs that come out. Each month,  she brings out all kinds of folks who dedicate their lives to helping  out our furry friends. Here are some words from Shelah on the work she does, and how she gives back to the community:     "Happy Hounds Massage started as a desire to do for our pets what I was doing for humans – helping them achieve efficient and comfortable movement through bodywork and massage.  I specialize in rehabilitative and therapeutic work, because that’s what my training is in (for humans, and it translates well into work with animals). The majority of pets I see through Happy Hounds Massage are seniors, injured, highly active and permanently disabled - not necessarily in that order.  I work with all small animals but specialize in dogs because they’re like the rugby players of the domestic animal world. They throw themselves into whatever they’re doing with no sense of self-preservation, bang themselves up, then go back for more.  A cat or a lizard for example won’t usually do that – they’ll pretty much just rest when they need to.   I try to support the animal community as much as possible. I’m expanding my social network through Facebook and Twitter as a way to share information about what’s happening in the pet world. I donate Happy Hounds Massage Gift Coupons whenever I can to help organizations raise money, and attend as many of the fundraising events as possible. I started organizing the Pet Program at Sunday Streets because I thought it would be a great way to introduce the local rescues and a public that might normally never meet.  My idea was that it would give the rescues a bigger pool of potential adopters, fosters, volunteers and supporters, and the public would have new opportunities to get involved, be helpful, and learn about personal and social animal care."   Highlight on a Rescue Copper’s Dream is new to the Sunday Streets Pet Program.  It was founded by a local woman, Jennifer Wang, who like so many of us would like to see the end of pet overpopulation and euthanasia. Copper’s Dream rescues dogs and cats of all ages, breeds and sizes, and has North and South Bay chapters. They brought a good variety of dogs and had a pretty successful first day with us.   Pet Photography by Mark Rogers    Mark Rogers is a San Francisco pet photographer specializing in candid, intimate portraits of pets and their people throughout the Bay Area. The above images were taken by him, as well as the volunteer photo on the right. Sunday Streets Raffle!   We are having a season long raffle! MUNI Vote on Budget, Service Reductions and Fare Increases -- Tuesday February 26 at 9am

PAR has received the following statement from MUNI regarding the proposed changes to MUNI. Read more about the MUNI budget and proposed cuts in the SF Chronicle coverage.

Please be advised that the SFMTA Board of Directors Meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday, February 16 has been rescheduled to Friday, February 26 at 9am. The location remains at Room 400 of City Hall.

The SFMTA Board is expected to vote at the February 26 meeting on proposals to close the Fiscal Year 2010 budget deficit.

The rescheduled meeting date will provide the SFMTA with additional time to evaluate the extensive public feedback on proposals to balance this year's budget. Thank you very much to those of you who have provided comments thus far. As you know, the SFMTA Board of Directors confronts a challenging budget situation for both the current fiscal year and the next two-year budget cycle. After layoffs and other cost-cutting measures that began last November, the SFMTA still faces a current-year $16.9 million shortfall. The solutions before the Agency and those impacted by its decisions are both painful and unpopular.

Proposed solutions include:
• Reduced frequencies and shorter service hours for Muni
• Muni fare increases and parking fee and fine increases Your opinion counts. Please attend one of the following meetings to learn more and to provide public comment.
