In November 2011 through January 2012, the Presidio Trust will clear vegetation around Mountain Lake in advance of the Mountain Lake Remediation Project. The purpose of the clearing is to gain access to areas to complete a topographic map, conduct geotechnical studies of Park Presidio Boulevard, and evaluate access routes for future environmental cleanup of the lake.

Most brush vegetation will be cleared within a 15-foot wide corridor east of Park Presidio Boulevard. Vegetation and trees will be cleared in the area north of Mountain Lake trail and east of Park Presidio Boulevard where the trail crosses underneath the highway. Some clearing is also required in the northern arm of the lake. Plants that will be removed are primarily non-native species.

Limited, short-term closures of Mountain Lake trail will be required for safety during removals.

Here's how: 1) Visit Safeway's Facebook Page 2) "Like" Safeway's page 3) Click the "Vote Now" button 4) Choose your "natural city" from the drop down menu and enter your contact information 5) Check the box that says "I agree to the rules of the Safeway Natural City Contest" 6) Click "Vote and Enter"   McKinley Square Park Community Design Meeting #2   Join us for the second community meeting and workshop to solicit input and assess community needs for both short-term and long-term improvements benefiting McKinley Square Park.      Free Hoops Clinic for Boys and Girls on September 10 Join our staff of coaches for a free basketball clinic for boys and girls in elementary and middle school, Saturday, September 10, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Gene Friend Recreation Center at SOMA (270 Sixth Street).  Enjoy some hoops, exercise and sign up for our Fall Basketball League.    Day of Service on Sunday, 9/11   Serve in remembrance at one of San Francisco Recreation and Park Department's tribute projects in partnership with Hands on Bay Area. On Sunday, September 11, 2011, volunteers will gather together at the Veterans War Memorial Building courtyard at Civic Center to honor the memories of the victims of 9/11 and then going forth to give tribute to the fallen by serving at community projects. The Day of Service will begin at 9 a.m. with registration and a light breakfast. At 9:30 a.m., a 20-minute the commemoration program will begin. At 10 a.m., volunteers will disperse to their projects. Registered participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt. You must register to participate in the volunteer projects. There is no charge to register.  SFRPD will be hosting three projects on 9/11, please sign up below for the following three sites: Jefferson Park, Margaret Hayward Playground, and Patricia's Green    Congratulations, America SCORES Bay Area!  Congratulations to America SCORES Bay Area, a soccer and literacy after school program for 1st-5th graders, for being recognized with a $12,500 initial grant by the Bay Area Youth Sports Foundation (BAYS).
