Presidio Shuttle Tour - Spots Open January 4
Looking for a new way to enjoy the Presidio? See the park like you’ve never seen it before! Register now for the free Presidio Shuttle Tour. A tour is held at Noon on the first Wednesday of each month. The one-hour guided journey introduces visitors to the park’s historic areas, wild open spaces, and hidden nooks, with an emphasis on projects that are shaping the park today. We’re now taking reservations for January 4 and February 1. Space is limited. RSVP is required to (415) 561-5418.
Concerts at the Presidio - January 12 and 13
Classical concerts and recitals highlighting young artists are offered free to the community throughConcerts at the Presidio. The next scheduled performances, entitled “Rhapsody con Brio,” areThursday and Friday, January 12 and 13. San Francisco Conservatory of Music pianist Sofija Nedic presents a powerful program ranging from pensive Baroque to gloriously effusive Romantic - Scarlatti, Brahms, Chopin and Liszt. Also on the program are young pianist Alex Marquez (Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt) and young violinist Alina Kobialka (Waxman: Carmen Fantasie). The performances begin at 7:30 pm at the Golden Gate Club, 135 Fisher Loop on the Main Post. Seats can be reserved by calling (415) 447-6274. $10 suggested donation; $5 seniors.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

Commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. day by taking care of the Presidio. This family-friendly event features habitat, forest, and garden stewardship projects in the Presidio’s Fort Scott District. Activities include planting, removing overgrown vegetation, uncovering historic garden features, taking care of trees, and pulling weeds. No experience is necessary; all ages are welcome. Fort Ross 2012 Bicentennial Program Series Kick-Off Program
A Special Evening with Kashaya, the First People of Mettini

Golden Gate Club, 135 Fisher LoopThe Fort Ross 2012 Bicentennial Committee and the Presidio Trust present a year-long series commemorating 200 years of Colony Ross. At this kick-off event, Emilio Valencia, tribal member of the Kashaya Band of Pomo Indians of the Stewarts Point Rancheria, invites you to an open discussion ‘Kashaya People - Yesterday and Today’ with several members of the Kashaya Band and park historians. Traditional stories, contemporary tales, and artifacts will be shared from the land called Mettini, a place now called Fort Ross State Historic Park. Fort Ross was established as Colony Ross in 1812 and changed the lives of the Kashaya. No RSVP. If you have questions, contact the Presidio Trust at (415) 561-5418.

New Metabolic Conditioning Class at Presidio Fitness
In January, Presidio Fitness is starting a new program on Saturday mornings called Metabolic Conditioning. The class will be offered from 9 to 10 am and is a mix of cardiovascular work and strength in a fun recess-like atmosphere using body weight exercises, kettlebells, medicine balls, ropes, and sand bags. It is a calorie-crushing 60-minute total-body training session designed to fire up your heart rate, torch your metabolism and change your body composition. Start the New Year right! Enjoy a Tour of the Presidio's Arion Press
Visit the nation’s largest fine printing facility and increase your knowledge of art and literature. Tours of the historic typefoundry with demonstrations of bookbinding, hot metal printing, and typecasting take place every Thursday at 3 pm ($7 per person). The gallery currently features an exhibit of Julie Mehretu’s new prints and her first artist book, the Arion Press edition Poetry of Sappho. Also on display are prints and books by such artists as Kiki Smith, Tom Holland, Wayne Thiebaud, and Raymond Pettibon. The gallery is free Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Arion Pressis located at 1802 Hays Street in the Presidio, just inside the 14th Avenue Gate.
Shakespeare on Tour, featuring Macbeth - Sunday, February 12
The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival and the Presidio Trust present a free 55 minute family performance of Macbeth, presented in Shakespeare’s original text. The event will be held on Sunday, February 12, at 2 pm, at the Golden Gate Club, 135 Fisher Loop. Shakespeare on Tour is performed by a cast of professional actors in costume, with set, props, and recorded music. At the conclusion of the show, the actors take questions from the audience. Following the performance enjoyPLAYSHOP, a free one-hour, hands-on experience for kids and parents that will deepen your appreciation of the Bard. This participatory workshop includes games, activities, and text work designed to create a greater understanding and appreciation of theater. Space for PLAYSHOP is limited; please RSVP to playshop@presidiotrust.gov. There is no RSVP for the performance of Macbeth.
