GEOTHERMAL TEST WELL
SAN FRANCISCO VA MEDICAL CENTER (SFVAMC)
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announces the preparation and availability of an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed construction associated with the Geothermal Test Well Installation. The SFVAMC is located at 4150 Clement Street on a 29-acre site in northwest San Francisco and is a major tertiary care facility that serves as a VA regional referral center for specialized medical and surgical programs.
The proposed action involves drilling a test well of approximately four to six inches in diameter drilled to a depth of 200 feet below grade. Following the test well installation, a test will be conducted to determine the thermal conductivity of the ground. The test well location has been determined as the area behind buildings 9 or 10.
Topics addressed in the EA include aesthetics/visual resources, land use, transportation and parking, air quality, geology and soils, floodplains, wetlands, watersheds, rivers, lakes, coastal zone, hydrology and water quality, noise, utilities, vegetation and wildlife, solid waste, cultural resources, and socioeconomics.
Copies of the EA are available for review between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday at the SFVAMC, Bldg 3, Engineering Office, Room 19. The EA can also be accessed on line at here: http://www.sanfrancisco.va.gov/visitors/EA_geothermal.asp.
