The Community Challenge Grant Program 2009 Fall/Winter Grant Cycle: Funding Available

For the 2009 Fall/Winter Grant Cycle, CCG is pleased to announce funding up to $400,000 to groups applying to implement projects that directly engage residents and businesses in creating green spaces, gathering places, public art, and other neighborhood amenities by featuring and applying ecologically friendly amenities and practices.

Through a partnership with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Urban Watershed Management Program, CCG announces additional funding up to $100,000 specifically to support projects implementing green storm water management practices, also known as Low Impact Design (LID). The grants are based on the idea that small individual actions by watershed stewards add up to large benefits for San Francisco's watersheds and sewer infrastructure. CCG and SFPUC hope that this partnership will encourage groups to apply for funding to implement LID projects in their neighborhoods. The grants would support the planning, design, construction and maintenance of storm water management.

OutsideLands Festival August 28-30: Reducing Noise and Traffic Hassles

The OutsideLands Festival is coming up this weekend – and with it, predictable parking and traffic hassles for the Richmond District. PAR has been working throughout the year with Recreation and Parks and festival promoters Another Planet Entertainment (APE) to help ease the pain on local residents.

Noise and other disturbances

Call 311 to report any issues with noise and other issue. Volunteers will be staffing the event to respond to resident complaints.

This is the most effective way to report issues, as the City logs 311 calls. (You do not need to give your name.)

Only call 911 in the case of life-threatening or police emergencies.

Preventing blocked driveways, other parking violations near GG Park – FREE "Do Not Block Driveway" signs

If you are near the park and worried about concert-goers blocking your driveway, "Do Not Block Driveway" signs have been prepared by Recreation and Parks and APE for those residing near Golden Gate Park.

To get your signs, call Nick Kinsey at Recreation and Parks, 415-831-2774. Ask him (or leave him a voice mail) for the number of signs you need for you and for your neighbors.

Signs can be picked up at the receptionist's desk in the Annex Building behind McLaren Lodge in Golden Gate Park (501 Stanyan Street).

Signs bear the official seal of the City and County of San Francisco and read:

"It is against the law to park, stop or leave standing, any vehicle in front of any portion of a driveway (California Vehicle Code 22500E) or in any portion of a red zone (San Francisco Transportation Code Sec 7.2.25). "Any vehicle found to be in violation will be fined $88 and possibly towed as well. A minimum towing fee of $330 will apply."

Two tow trucks will be roaming the streets to respond to violations.

Live Auction at the Presidio on August 28 – Your chance to buy a piece of history

For the first time, the Presidio Trust will hold an auction of extraordinary items salvaged from Presidio buildings since the Army's 1994 departure. Ranging from the conventional to the eclectic, items include tools, antique display cases, stainless steel cabinetry, vintage sinks and bathtubs, furniture, lighting, and custom cabinetry…even a grand piano and a Hammond organ.

A preview of items takes place at the Presidio on Tuesday, August 25 and Wednesday, August 26.

The auction is Friday, August 28, at 9 am.
