The Park Service and the Cliff House are plannint to implement valet parking during the evening hours to give Cliff House visitors (especially those with limited mobility) a better experience.
-
Valet Parking will operate under these parameters:
-
Concessioner will utilize Sutro Heights lot, using no more than 25 spaces at any one time. The lot holds 50 spaces in total.
-
Valet parking will be only in the Sutro Heights Lot, which is South of Point Lobos Ave. The new Merrie Way recently opened by the NPS north of Point Lobos is not affected.
-
NPS or Concessioner will not close the Sutro Heights parking lot or block the entrance in any way to enable valet parking. During valet parking operation, general visitor cars will be entitled to drive in and circulate the lot so as to avoid any back-up on Point Lobos Ave.
-
No ADA spots will be used by concessioner/valet.
-
Concessioner will begin the valet no earlier than 4:30pm by placing cones in last 25 available spots available farthest from the entrance closest to the exit). As cars from other visitors are removed, the valet will consolidate the 25 “coned” spots towards the exit. The valet will utilize no more than 25 spots at any one time for valet parking. The remainder spots will be available to general visitors. The disabled parking will not be utilized by valet. No cars will be ticketed or towed. NPS may adjust the number of parking spaces the valet can "cone" depending on demand.
-
Concessioner valet drivers upon pick-up will proceed south on Point Lobos Ave and turn around at Balboa Street in a safe manner consistent with all local traffic laws and ordinances. Valet will also instruct patrons to do the same when picking up their vehicle.
-
Concessioner will utilize a system of valet parking staffing that minimizes valet personnel needing to cross Point Lobos Ave.
-
The evening Valet parking is anticipated to provide a Cliff House patron with a safer, more accessible experience for a small fee. The Cliff House will also assist us in providing general stewardship of the Sutro area, a helpful "eyes and ears" in the lot every evening.
The NPS will adjust operating parameters of the valet to ensure it works smoothly with the community, traffic, and visitors.
The Park Service will be taking feedback on how the valet system works. Send comments to George Dugerian:
