Destination: Lands End – Marine Mammal Walk
Sunday, May 24th, 2009; 1 to 3 pm
Join Peter Winch, naturalist with the Gulf of the Farallones Marine Sanctuary, to learn how to spot and identify some of the intriguing marine mammals you’ll see on the California Coast. We will be on the lookout for harbor porpoises, sea lions, and even gray whales. We hope that we will catch sight of a few gray whales on their trip north to the arctic for summer feeding. On the northward trip the mothers are traveling with their calves and thus go slower and stay closer to shore, making it easier to see them from shore.
All ages are welcome! Bring binoculars if you have them and be prepared for wind and fog.
Meet at the new trailhead at the north end of the Lands End parking lot, just up the hill from the Cliff House.
To RSVP call (415) 385-3065 or e-mail cchristman @parksconservancy.org by Friday, May 22.
